I am terrified of water! Oh, don’t get me wrong, I like the way it looks. So picturesque and captivating. Almost inviting and refreshing. I am not a strong swimmer, therefore I try not to be in situations where I am not in control of the water around me. You can imagine my lack of excitement when my parents moved into a lake rental in my late teen years. It was a quiet, sleepy, little neighborhood in the winter that came alive in the summer with vacationers and owners of the lake houses. Boats of all shapes and sizes raced in and out of the private channel day in and day out. I was young, socially awkward, and willing to do just about anything to make friends in the new town. So against all better judgment, I put on a life vest and stepped onto a speed boat with a group of seasoned lake goers. In all my naivety, I believe that I thought it would be more like sailing on a sail boat or maybe the infamous scene from the Titanic, where she is standing on the Bow, arms outstretched, eyes closed enjoying the wind in her hair. Yeah. No.
